M'si pričakovano draftali Hancocka. So pa bila presenečenja že pri 2. in 3. picku. O'si draftali Kjerstada, Marlinsi pa Maxa Meyerja. Največji "stunner" drafta so pa Red Soxi naredili.

 

With the 17th overall pick, the Red Sox selected ... the 139th-ranked Draft prospect by MLB Pipeline. That was Archbishop Mitty (Calif.) High School second baseman Nick Yorke, one of the more stunning selections of the evening.

 

Pa prvič v zgodovini je bilo prvih 7 draftanih igralcev iz collegov.

 

For the first time in Draft history, the first high school player wasn’t taken until eighth overall, when the Padres selected Tennessee high school outfielder Robert Hassell III. The previous record was seventh overall (Clayton Kershaw, Dodgers) in 2006.

It was the third consecutive year the Mariners have selected a hard-throwing college right-hander with its first-round pick. The run began with the Mariners taking Logan Gilbert out of Stetson University with the 14th overall pick in the 2018 draft. Last year, the Mariners drafted George Kirby with the No. 20 pick out of Elon University.

 

If you throw in lefty Justus Sheffield and right-hander Justin Dunn, touted prospects that are expected to be in the rotation this season, and recent high draft picks Isaiah Campbell and Brandon Williamson, the Mariners have a cadre of young starters in their minor-league system.

 

Hancock, Gilbert in Kirby imajo vsi TOR potencial. Upam, da se bo končno enkrat izšlo po planih in bomo imeli mlado, dobro rotacijo. Imamo tudi nekaj zanimivih reliever prospectov.  V OF bosta Kelenic in Rodriguez razturala, upam, da tudi Lewis, na C imamo Raleigha, 1B White, 2B in SS bosta Long in Crawford dobila šanso, da se dokažeta, na 3B bo pa treba najti menjavo za Seagerja. Upam samo, da ta "izgubljena" sezona ne bo preveč vplivala na razvoj igralcev v minorsih. Če/ko se bo začelo bo pa tudi zanimivo videt, če se bo koga od top prospectov morebiti pripeljalo v MLB, čeprav verjetno še niso čisto pripravljeni.

The asterisk is for RHP Connor Phillips, who is closer to a prep prospect than he is a college prospect; LSU commit who declined to sign and went to CC instead to re-enter the draft this year. Barely 19, still plenty of physical projection left.

 

Zgleda soliden draft, sploh Keenan je intriguing.

 

May I interest you in another Beef Boy? When Keenan steps into the box, it looks like if Shed Long woke up one day in a 6’4, 250 lbs body and decided to take it for a test drive. His hands are quick and explosive, which translates to the field as well. His glovework is uncanny for a guy of his size, but his foot speed and range may push him to the cold corner. Keenan is one of the better college hitters in the draft, and could carve himself a Hunter Dozier-like profile of hitting enough to assuage the defensive limitations (particularly if he’s paired with a rangy defender at short).

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he was contacted Thursday by a team inquiring about Colin Kaepernick's 2017 workout with the Seahawks. 

 

Carroll also claimed he regretted not signing Kaepernick in 2017, and that the only reason he didn't was that he "felt (Kap) was a starter, and that he was certain Kap would be starting somewhere that season." Carroll can say that now, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported at the time that the Seahawks ultimately did not make the move because Kap would not commit to stop kneeling for the national anthem. Profootballtalk reported in 2017 that Kap was willing to accept backup money behind Russell Wilson. The league can express all the Kap regrets it wants, but the reality is, he was deliberately iced out for three years and no one can credibly deny it.

Henry je pa dobil Heismana tisto leto.

 

Drugače pa škoda, da Gaskin ni dobil prave priložnosti lani pri pliskavicah. Upam, da bo letos drugače.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN on Monday he is "not confident" that there will be a 2020 baseball season and that "as long as there's no dialogue" with the MLB Players Association, "that real risk is going to continue."

 

"The owners are 100 percent committed to getting baseball back on the field," Manfred said. "Unfortunately, I can't tell you that I'm 100 percent certain that's gonna happen."

 

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark issued a statement on Monday in response to Manfred's comments that read, "Players are disgusted that after Rob Manfred unequivocally told Players and fans that there would '100%' be a 2020 season, he has decided to go back on his word and is now threatening to cancel the entire season. Any implication that the Players Association has somehow delayed progress on health and safety protocols is completely false, as Rob has recently acknowledged the parties are 'very, very close.'

 

"This latest threat is just one more indication that Major League Baseball has been negotiating in bad faith since the beginning. This has always been about extracting additional pay cuts from Players and this is just another day and another bad faith tactic in their ongoing campaign."

 

On Saturday, the day after MLB delivered a return-to-play proposal that called for a 72-game season and guaranteed 70% of players' prorated salaries (with a maximum of 83%), MLBPA lead negotiator Bruce Meyer said in a letter to MLB deputy commissioner Dan Halem: "Given your continued insistence on hundreds of millions of dollars of additional pay reductions, we assume these negotiations are at an end."
