As a non American, I find it fascinating that people have to behave as if they could be shot at any time, due to a nervous cop feeling even minutely threatened

As a Canadian this breaks my heart. You realize that he’s carrying his credentials around his neck cause he knows that reaching in his pockets may get him shot. This is for the rest of his life. He has to be this cautious for the rest of his life.

At that point where people need to treat police like wild animals. No sudden or quick movements, assume a calm demeanor at all times and hope they're not in a bad mood that day.

As a black man who was born and raised in the UK, I’ve never ever had to worry about acting or behaving a certain way around the police. I would never live in a country where you had a group of poorly trained men, with firearms and immunity.

As a Canadian I have never, ever, been worried about being shot by a cop. Sure some are jerks, but they are doing their jobs and I respect that they probably dealt with some jerks too. And it breaks my cold cold heart to know people have to take this level of precautions just to not die. Americans are wild

It's a discussion that mostly POC need to have with their sons, children. Which is absolute bs! Grew up in a big city. We were taught this as well. We shouldn't have to have those conversations. The pd is supposed to deescalate the situation. Very frustrating!

A Gallup analysis published in March 2020 looked at data collected by the U.S. Department of Education in 2012, 2014, and 2017. It found that 130 million adults in the country have low literacy skills, meaning that more than half (54%) of Americans between the ages of 16 and 74 read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level, according to a piece published in 2022 by APM Research Lab.

Navedek

Data published by the geographic data and statistics website World Atlas confirmed that the U.S. was ranked 125th with a literacy rate of 86%, just after Oman and just before the Syian Arab Republic. Top countries, by comparison, included Andorra, Luxembourg, Norway, and Liechtenstein with literacy rates of virtually 100%.

kaj to v praksi pomeni, zveni zelo senzacionalistično

To povprecje je tko tko no

Metodologije so drugačne. Takole so v ZDA zbirali za raziskavo, da 54 % bere POD nivojem 6. razreda

“The U.S. Department of Education combined assessment data from three sample waves (2012, 2014 and 2017), using data from 12,330 respondents living in 185 counties. The research team then modelled the literacy scores, which means they gathered a large amount of data about each respondent

podrobneje pa:

Navedek

Literacy is broadly defined as the ability to read and write, but it more accurately encompasses the comprehension, evaluation and utilization of information, which is why people describe many different types of literacy — such as health, financial, legal, etc. Low literacy skills can profoundly affect the day-to-day success of adults in the real world, and these impacts extend to their families, too.

Navedek

Nationally, over 1 in 5 adults have a literacy proficiency at or below Level 1. Adults in this range have difficulty using or understanding print materials. Those on the higher end of this category can perform simple tasks based on the information they read, but adults below Level 1 may only understand very basic vocabulary or be functionally illiterate.

Takole pa je s splošnim terminom "pismenost" po svetu

Navedek

We’d also like to briefly address the second part of the claim, which states that the U.S. ranks 125th globally for literacy.

Literacy rate" is defined by UNESCO Institute for Statistics as “the percentage of the population of a given age group that can read and write.” An August 2019 report in a journal article published by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE) noted that the U.S. ranked 125th for literacy.

BUT

Navedek

But there are limitations associated with how such data is collected that may skew results. For example, methodologies for collecting data vary by country and there is not a procedure to standardize the information.

“Some countries apply definitions and criteria for literacy which are different from the international standards, or equate persons with no schooling to illiterates, or change definitions between censuses,” wrote UNESCO.

Navedek

For example, some countries may require a simple survey response, but only people who are able to receive and read survey correspondence would be able to appropriately respond, creating what’s known as non-response bias
