Zakaj mu hočeš uničit kariero še preden se sploh začne? :D

Prvič letos 10 tekem over .500 in zdaj smo sami na vrhu WC lestvice, ampak razlike so seveda majhne.

also, RIP Padresi

Še dobro, da so dobili Sota.

Ponoči pa Hawksi začenjajo proti Steelersom. Prvič po dolgem času bom z zanimanjem spremljal preseason.

also, The Sound Of The Seahawks epizode so res carske.

Prekinjen niz zmag proti Rangersom, čeprav smo vodili 3-0. :(

Tigersi so pa splitali doubleheader z Guardiansi. Usaj to no :D

There is always next year ali kaj ti naj rečem? :D

M'si pa sweepnili Angelse, 11 runov. Ohtani spet one man show - 4 hiti, 4 RBI. Res ga je škoda za Angelse. :)  Pa še NYY so nam naredili majhno uslugo in premagali Rayse v 10. inningu. Zdaj imamo 1.5 tekme prednosti pred TB in TOR ter 2.5 pred MIN.

Še 43 tekem do konca.

Big Ten announces TV rights deals totaling over $7 billion with Fox, CBS and NBC

The Big Ten announced new media rights agreements on Thursday morning that stand to make it the top-earning conference in college sports.

The league unveiled seven-year agreements with Fox/FS1, CBS, NBC and the Big Ten Network, which will take the Big Ten through the 2029-30 academic year. The conference also announced a deal with Peacock, the direct-to-consumer streaming platform from NBCUniversal. Peacock will exclusively stream four conference football games per year in addition to four nonconference games involving Big Ten teams.

The Athletic has confirmed that CBS and NBC are each paying around $350 million per year for their Big Ten packages, and sources said that the Big Ten’s new rights agreements are worth more than $7 billion over the seven-year term. That would make it the largest rights deal ever for a college athletic conference. Each contract is for seven years, which means the Big Ten will go to market again before the SEC’s new contract with ESPN expires in 2034.

For the first time in 40 years, ESPN will not broadcast home Big Ten football and basketball games. The network officially pulled out of negotiations last week.

Fox landed the Big Ten’s premier package of games, which it will carry in the noon ET window. Starting in 2024, CBS will broadcast a Big Ten game at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by a Big Ten game on NBC in primetime. Fox has increased its number of top selections in the football games draft in addition to maintaining the first overall selection for the next seven years; Fox will also broadcast four Big Ten championship games during the term.

“It was really important for us to build something unique in college athletics — to have specified windows,” Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren told The Athletic. “Our fans around the world will know that, from a Big Ten standpoint, we’ll kick off the day on Fox with their Big Noon show, and then we’ll roll right into all nationally televised games. We’ll roll (from Fox at noon) to a game on national TV with CBS at 3:30, which is a critical time period. And then, we’ll go right into primetime with NBC.”

The deal is backloaded: CBS will not carry as many games in 2023 as it will for the duration of the contract, so the network will pay more in later years, and USC and UCLA will not join the Big Ten until 2024, so the added payments from then on reflect the increase in inventory.

“The Big Ten is going to be on three major television networks from noon until 11 o’clock at night every Saturday — that is unprecedented,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told The Athletic. “That’s never happened before. The way that each of the three broadcast partners are going to feed into each other and cross-promote each other throughout the day is going to be very beneficial for all.”

CBS, FOX and NBC will each televise designated Big Ten football championship games during the term of the agreements. Fox will broadcast the league’s title game in the odd years (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029), while CBS will broadcast it in 2024 and 2028, and NBC will air it in 2026.

Fox/FS1 will carry up to 27 regular-season football games in 2023, then up to 32 games per year from 2024 onward. BTN will broadcast up to 41 games in 2023 and a maximum of 50 games per year afterward.

NBC will broadcast 16 regular-season Big Ten games in 2023 and then 15 games per year from 2024 onward. Games on NBC will simultaneously stream on Peacock. NBC will carry a primetime game on Black Friday as well.

Because the SEC will remain on CBS through the end of the 2023 season, the Big Ten will have a partial schedule on the network its first year. CBS will carry seven Big Ten football games as well as regular season and postseason men’s basketball as well as, for the first time, the women’s basketball tournament final. Starting in 2024, CBS will broadcast up to 15 Big Ten football games per season, including an afternoon game on Black Friday. All of those games will be broadcast on CBS, and every game CBS airs will also stream on Paramount+.

“Ever since we didn’t renew our SEC rights, we’ve been focused on the Big Ten,” McManus said. “It was a huge priority of ours. We forged a really good relationship with Kevin Warren, and Kevin understood the value of being on CBS at 3:30. The national footprint that the Big Ten has lines up with our owned and operated stations. So, it’s really a match made in heaven.

“We’re thrilled with the deal. It means that CBS Sports is still in the business of big-time college football at 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.”

The 2024 season will also mark a historic first: The first time in 40 years that ESPN will not broadcast home Big Ten football and basketball games. The network pulled out of its negotiations with the Big Ten after saying no to the conference’s final offer of a seven-year deal worth $380 million per year, sources told The Athletic last week. ESPN had looked at the Big Ten’s primetime package that NBC ended up getting.

ESPN’s exclusive 10-year deal with the SEC, starting in 2024-25, is believed to be in the $300 million per year range. That deal includes both 3:30 p.m. ET and primetime windows for the conference’s premier games.

News of the Big Ten and ESPN going their separate ways stunned many throughout the industry. ESPN has played a major role in college football’s growth from a regional sport into one with national interest. ESPN also has exclusive rights to the College Football Playoff through 2026.

“I never looked at any potential partners as, ‘We could do something without them,’” Warren said. “I look at it more so, at this point in time, that the most powerful and positive fit for us right now, as we go forward for the seven-year agreement, was with Fox, CBS and NBC.”

Warren said that while he respects the Big Ten’s 40-year relationship with the network, he also understands that change is part of the business.

“There’s always movement in this industry, and I still consider them colleagues, friends and business partners,” Warren said. “You’ll see things evolve, even after deals with Fox, CBS and NBC are finalized. There’s constantly movement in this area. I look forward to determining if there are other ways that we can work with other major players in this business.”

As for basketball, CBS will broadcast up to 11 regular-season men’s basketball games in 2023 and will carry 15 games (13 of which will be conference games) from 2024 onward; CBS will continue to carry the Big Ten tournament semifinals and the championship game, which leads into the CBS Selection Sunday show each March.

Peacock will stream 32 regular-season men’s basketball games (20 conference games) in 2023-24 and 47 games (32 conference games) from 2024-25 onward as well as the Big Ten tournament’s opening night doubleheader. Peacock will also stream 30 regular-season women’s basketball games (20 conference games) per year starting in 2023-24.

Fox/FS1 will carry a minimum of 45 regular-season men’s basketball games per year, while BTN will carry a minimum of 126 men’s games per year. BTN will air the four Thursday games and four quarterfinal games of the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament.

How the Big Ten’s new TV rights deal was driven by an NFL mindset with an eye for disruption

Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren considers himself a curious person. He likes to consume information, evaluate it and then act. He has spent much of his first three years at the Big Ten absorbing all he could about college sports and how it works. And over the past two months, he has acted.

First, the late-June stunner of USC and UCLA joining the Big Ten. Now, a Big Ten media rights package that will give the conference top billing on Fox, CBS and NBC in a unique Saturday tripleheader each week. FS1, BTN and streaming service Peacock will also carry Big Ten games.

“I’m looking forward to changing the landscape of college athletics and all of sports forever,” Warren told The Athletic. “Today will be the first step in the direction to allow us to continually disrupt the industry in a positive manner.”

Warren’s NFL background clearly impacted the negotiations. He noted that his 21 years in the league helped mold the way he thought about constructing the various deals. His experience at the Minnesota Vikings and around NFL commissioner Roger Goodell taught him to “think not only nationally, but globally,” he said. “That’s how we approached everything.”

Warren has seen up close the value of having relationships with multiple over-the-air national broadcast partners. He was also in the room when NBC executives and NFL brass developed the format and structure for the network’s Sunday Night Football product. Ever since he was hired as Big Ten commissioner in 2019, he has wanted to see what could be possible for the Big Ten.

The new Big Ten deal is decidedly NFL-like, with multiple partners paying top dollar to broadcast good games. Each has a significant stake in the league, increasing the chances the network partners will put significant marketing dollars behind the product and pursue cross-promotion on their programming throughout the week and during other major sporting events — not to mention across networks.

Future disruption is possible, too. The Big Ten may still explore specialty packages with partners such as Amazon, Apple or Turner, perhaps tied to specific one-off events. If the Big Ten were to expand its conference membership beyond just USC and UCLA, it could open the door to add another media package. The potential addition of more West Coast schools such as Stanford/Cal and Oregon/Washington would also supply the conference with the inventory to sell in a late-night Saturday package, a league source pointed out.

When asked this week whether he would be actively pursuing expansion opportunities now that the media deal is done, Warren said he “would never close the door on expansion, but it has to be at the right time for the right reasons with the right institutions.” He reiterated that his priority now is to make sure that USC and UCLA’s transition to the Big Ten is “seamless.”

Asked specifically about Notre Dame, Warren said he understands how important independence has historically been to the institution. He graduated from Notre Dame’s law school and has followed the football program as a fan.

“They’ve enjoyed their independence, and they’ve been blessed to be able to be independent,” Warren said. “It will be interesting, over these next two to five to 10 years, how this all comes together in the changing landscape of college athletics.

“I think we’ll have some clarity over the next couple of years about what this construct looks like.”

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told The Athletic on Wednesday that he’s “thrilled” that NBC has partnered with the Big Ten for additional college football games on top of its Notre Dame home games package.

“It’s good for the game, given the extraordinary way in which NBC produces broadcasts,” Swarbrick said. “But it’s also good for us to be affiliated with someone who has additional college football inventory that they can use to promote our games and vice versa, to build a portfolio of college football and be seen as a college football broadcaster.”

Sports Business Journal reported this week that Notre Dame can expect to make around $60 million per year from NBC in its next deal. Asked by The Athletic whether he believes Notre Dame will get what it needs financially to stay independent, Swarbrick said, “We hope so.”

Warren said he hopes the Big Ten’s new partners would bid on rights to an eventual expanded College Football Playoff. He has pushed all along for multiple networks to bid on the event when its contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 college football season; he envisions multiple partners much like the spread of networks the NFL has involved with its postseason. ESPN has been the exclusive partner of the CFP since its inception in 2014.

The thinking goes that multiple partners for the Playoff would lead to an increased investment in college football from more media companies, which would be incentivized to cover the sport thoroughly year-round to promote their postseason telecast(s).

“All of them understand the power of college football,” Warren said of Fox, CBS and NBC. “Throughout our negotiations, I think they understood that this is a really unique opportunity in college football and the landscape to not just build relationships with us in the Big Ten conference but also from a postseason Playoff standpoint.”

Although efforts to expand the CFP during the current contract fizzled last winter, some commissioners believe there is a way to expand the four-team field prior to 2026. Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff first broached the subject publicly at his league’s media days earlier in the summer, and he heads one of the conferences that voted against a 12-team model back in January. Warren was another who opposed early expansion, in part because he wanted to take an expanded product to the open market but also because he wanted to guarantee access for Power 5 champions. He told The Athletic last month that he would soften his stance on the latter issue.

The commissioners and their respective presidents on the CFP board of directors would need to agree on a format for the new contract that will begin in 2026 and then see if they can implement change one or two seasons early. It would be somewhat of a backdoor way to expand early, but it has always been possible. Knowing how much money is at stake — the belief among stakeholders is that expanding early could bring in as much as half a billion dollars of additional revenue — there could be motivation to use that workaround. (Even if ESPN would likely get first dibs on rights to a bigger Playoff prior to 2026.)

It is hard to predict where anything in college sports may go next. But so much of the future of the enterprise will be determined by Warren and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey. They, more than anyone else, have the power to shake college sports to its core. They, more than anyone else, can disrupt the landscape.

Sankey has known this for quite some time, but Warren has emerged as a force to be reckoned with over the past two months. He’s felt the weight of his words change as he’s begun to act boldly.

Now, the rest of college sports waits to see what he will do next.

Medoti razbili Hawkse.

The Mariners sent 11 batters to the plate on Friday night. Each one of them walked away with at least one hit. That's a pretty decent winning formula.

The last time the Mariners did that was over a decade ago, on May 23, 2011. And it may serve as the latest example of Seattle's offense fully kicking into high gear, the Mariners putting up double-digit runs for the second consecutive game in Friday night's 10-2 rout of the A's.

No Major League team has scored 17 or more runs in a single inning since at least 1974. Only the Texas Rangers, on April 19, 1996, against the Baltimore Orioles, have scored 16 runs in an inning since then.

Incredibly, Sugar Land's monster inning isn't a Minor League Baseball record. In 1930, the Waco Cubs scored 18 runs in a single inning versus the Beaumont Exporters. During that inning, the 5-foot-6 Gene "Half Pint" Rye clubbed three home runs.
